Intelligent Fault Analysis in Electrical Power Grids

Power grids are one of the most important components of infrastructure in today's world. Every nation is dependent on the security and stability of its own power grid to provide electricity to the households and industries. A malfunction of even a small part of a power grid can cause loss of productivity, revenue and in some cases even life. Thus, it is imperative to design a system which can detect the health of the power grid and take protective measures accordingly even before a serious anomaly takes place. To achieve this objective, we have set out to create an artificially intelligent system which can analyze the grid information at any given time and determine the health of the grid through the usage of sophisticated formal models and novel machine learning techniques like recurrent neural networks. Our system simulates grid conditions including stimuli like faults, generator output fluctuations, load fluctuations using Siemens PSS/E software and this data is trained using various classifiers like SVM, LSTM and subsequently tested. The results are excellent with our methods giving very high accuracy for the data. This model can easily be scaled to handle larger and more complex grid architectures.Comment: In proceedings of the 29th IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (ICTAI) 2017 (full paper); 6 pages; 13 figure

Probabilistic Robustness Analysis of Stochastic Jump Linear Systems

In this paper, we propose a new method to measure the probabilistic robustness of stochastic jump linear system with respect to both the initial state uncertainties and the randomness in switching. Wasserstein distance which defines a metric on the manifold of probability density functions is used as tool for the performance and the stability measures. Starting with Gaussian distribution to represent the initial state uncertainties, the probability density function of the system state evolves into mixture of Gaussian, where the number of Gaussian components grows exponentially. To cope with computational complexity caused by mixture of Gaussian, we prove that there exists an alternative probability density function that preserves exact information in the Wasserstein level. The usefulness and the efficiency of the proposed methods are demonstrated by example.Comment: 2014 ACC(American Control Conference) pape

In a world heavily loaded by information, there is a great need for keeping specific information secure from adversaries. The rapid growth in the research field of lightweight cryptography can be seen from the list of the number of lightweight stream as well as block ciphers that has been proposed in the recent years. This paper focuses only on the subject of lightweight block ciphers. In this paper, we have proposed a new 256 bit lightweight block cipher named as Marvin, that belongs to the family of Extended LS designs.Comment: 12 pages,6 figure
